AccuBattery vs DevCheck vs runcheck: which diagnostic app should you use?

AccuBattery, DevCheck, and runcheck compared by battery tracking, hardware detail, Android version support, and practical diagnostic use.

Which app should you install if your Android phone feels hot, drains too fast, or just seems “off”? The annoying answer is that AccuBattery, DevCheck, and runcheck don’t really do the same job.

AccuBattery is for long-term battery capacity tracking. DevCheck is for hardware and live system data. runcheck is for a broader health snapshot across battery, thermal, network, and storage.

That sounds like splitting hairs until you’re standing in front of a used phone seller with ten minutes to make a decision. Then it matters.

AccuBattery is for battery history

AccuBattery estimates how much charge your battery can still hold compared with its original design capacity. It does that by logging charging sessions and calculating how many mAh move into the battery over time.

The app also shows charging speed, discharge speed, screen-on and screen-off drain, deep sleep, per-session wear, and a charge alarm you can set at 80% or another limit. Pro removes ads and unlocks older history. Pricing is an in-app purchase and can vary by region, so treat old price references as stale.

AccuBattery’s biggest strength is focus. For checking whether your 5,000 mAh phone now behaves more like a 3,900 mAh phone, this is the most direct tool in this comparison.

But the estimate is only as good as the data the phone exposes. Android’s BatteryManager can report current and charge counter values, but OEM implementations are messy. Some phones report current readings cleanly in microamps. Others round, smooth, or withhold values. That is why one device can give a stable estimate after a few sessions while another jumps around enough to make you doubt the whole thing.

AccuBattery also needs time. It is not useful for a quick pre-purchase check. If you’re inspecting a used phone in a cafe, you won’t learn much from installing AccuBattery five minutes before paying.

DevCheck is for live hardware data

Open DevCheck when you want details. It identifies the SoC, CPU cores and live frequencies, GPU, RAM, storage, camera hardware, display characteristics, sensors, Wi-Fi, mobile network, operating system, and battery readings.

Its Play Store listing also notes root and Shizuku support for additional system information on compatible devices. That is a good fit for developers and power users who want more than the normal Android Settings app shows.

The battery tab gives live voltage, current, temperature, and power values. The network tab shows connection type and signal details. The sensor tab updates in real time. It is a lot of information.

Too much, for some people.

DevCheck usually won’t tell you whether -82 dBm is acceptable in your situation, whether 42°C is a problem during charging, or whether the phone is healthy overall. It shows the data and assumes you know what to do with it. That is fine for a technical reader. It is less fine for someone who wants a plain verdict.

Pro adds tests, benchmarking, battery monitoring, widgets, and floating monitors. The free version is still useful enough that you shouldn’t feel forced to upgrade immediately.

runcheck is for overall device health

runcheck looks at four areas: battery condition, heat, connectivity, and storage pressure. It combines them into a health score from 0 to 100, with battery weighted at 40%, thermal and network at 25% each, and storage at 10%.

The score is not meant to replace detailed readings. It is a triage tool. If the phone is hot, signal is poor, storage is nearly full, and the battery status looks weak, you should not have to interpret six separate screens before getting the basic idea.

runcheck also treats measurement confidence as part of the product. Battery current is the easy example. Android can expose instantaneous current, but phones don’t all report it equally well. runcheck labels readings as accurate, estimated, or unavailable depending on what the device actually provides.

That sounds small, but it changes the way you read the number. “420 mA” feels exact. “420 mA, estimated” tells you not to overthink it.

The free tier covers the same four health areas. Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription and adds charger comparison, app usage, extended history, thermal throttling logs, widgets, CSV export, and deeper tracking. Everything runs on-device and no account is required.

What runcheck doesn’t do is hardware identification. It won’t tell you the camera sensor model or GPU architecture. Pair it with DevCheck if you need that.

Where they overlap

All three can show basic battery status and temperature. AccuBattery and DevCheck both show charge and discharge behavior. DevCheck and runcheck both touch network and thermal data, though they do it in different ways.

The overlap is smaller than it looks.

AccuBattery is the only one here built around capacity estimation from charge sessions. DevCheck alone is built around detailed component and system information. runcheck is the only one built around a combined health score with confidence labels.

Installing all three is possible, but it is not usually worth it. You get repeated battery temperature numbers and more background services than you need.

Android version and device support matter

On old phones running Android 10 or 11, native battery health information is often missing. AccuBattery becomes more useful there because the system doesn’t give you much else.

On Pixel 8a and later, current Pixel software includes Settings > Battery > Battery health for battery status, and Settings > About phone > Battery information for cycle count and related battery details. That doesn’t mean every Android 17 phone has the same page. Android 17 reached supported Pixel devices first, and other manufacturers expose battery data through their own software when they choose to.

Thermal data has a similar split. Android’s thermal status API arrived in Android 10, and thermal headroom arrived in Android 11. runcheck can use those APIs when available, but older phones and some OEM builds still expose less than you’d expect.

In practice, newer software helps, but it doesn’t make Android diagnostics uniform. It never has.

Used phone checks

For a used phone, DevCheck is usually the fastest of the three for verifying specs. You can confirm the SoC, RAM, display, storage, and camera details quickly enough to catch obvious listing problems.

runcheck works better for a quick health snapshot. Battery, temperature, storage, and network all matter when deciding whether the phone is worth buying. You won’t get weeks of history, but you can see whether something looks wrong right now.

AccuBattery is the weak option for this specific situation. It needs charge history. Install it after you buy the phone, not during the inspection.

What to install

If battery aging is your main concern, install AccuBattery and leave it running long enough to build a real estimate.

For hardware details, install DevCheck. For developers, repair-minded users, and people who care about SoC names, it is the one to keep.

For a practical health overview, install runcheck. Pair it with DevCheck when component-level details matter too.

For most users, runcheck plus DevCheck is the stronger everyday combination. AccuBattery still earns its place when battery capacity tracking is the whole point.
